Mike & Jane's Annual Report

December 25, 2011
Super Bowl
FEBRUARY: Jane got the chance to go see the Packers win the Super Bowl, and was able to invite a brother to come along. After six rounds of rock-paper-scissors, four games of five-card stud, and several fistfights, the one who got to come was John. There may have been some bribery involved, too.
Harry Potter Movie
JULY: Before the midnight showing of the last Harry Potter movie. Afterward, Maggie’s “Stupefy” spell worked even without a magic wand.
Booth Picture
AUGUST: Before Maggie went off to college, we spent a few days in California while Dave was off on his cruise. Here we are at the Musée Méchanique at Fisherman’s Wharf.
Curtsy
MAY: Ursuline Academy was founded in 1874, and evidently has not changed a whole lot since then: here’s Maggie after three days of practice, doing the official curtsy at her graduation ceremony. The whole diploma thing was kind of an anti-climax after that.
Paul & Pat
APRIL: Jane’s brothers Paul & Pat come down and work the pit crew for the NASCAR race at Texas Motor Speedway. Two wheels fell off, and the car crashed.
Dave On Cruise

AUGUST: Some friends of ours had an extra spot on a Caribbean cruise, so Dave manned up and went like the standup guy he is. What a trooper.

At Drive In
JUNE: Cousin Jenny came down to visit and intern in the summer: luckily, she liked board games and drive-in movies. Or she is just a really good actress.
World Series
OCTOBER: Rangers win Game Four of the World Series! Sadly, we could not go to Games Six or Seven, and we all know how that turned out.
At Kenyon Move In
AUGUST: At Kenyon College move-in
.
Eagle Court of Honor
SEPTEMBER: Eagle Court of Honor, where Dave got to give a speech about his life and goals. Most of them had to do with the three R's: Rock 'n' Roll, Romance, and Rugby.
Fishing Trip
JULY: Mike got to go on a trip to Alaska with his brother-in-law Mike Zang and friends. In the midst of all the cigars and drinking, they got a little fishing in as well.
Jane Shooting

MARCH: All four of us went to Battle Creek Ranch with the Venture Crew, where Jane bagged her first clay pigeon. It does not look very impressive hanging over the fireplace.

In Napa
AUGUST: Maggie, still a few years shy of 21, had to sit and watch as Mike and Jane tried out various Napa Valley wines. At least they let her taste at the Jelly Belly factory tour.
Chinatown
AUGUST: All the best Catholic apparel comes straight out of Chinatown.
Maggie at Kenyon
AUGUST: Maggie decided to go to Kenyon College, largely because it is one of the top ten schools that look the most like Harry Potter's school, Hogwarts. We are hoping she will learn something there other than Potions or Defense Against the Dark Arts. Though that would be kind of cool.
Roommates
AUGUST:New roommates! They were swapping out clothes and shoes within half an hour.
Caricature
NOVEMBER: At Jesuit's ArtQuest auction: that's either us or Brad and Angelina.
Gold Award
MAY: Maggie's Girl Scouts Gold Award Ceremony. Not an award for cookie salesmanship, as you might think. But she did tie for first in consuming them...
Playing Settlers of Catan
AUGUST: Before Maggie and her cousin Will ran off to college, we decided to determine the Settlers of Catan champion. It was Will: that's him between Maggie and Dave, plotting to pull the rug out from yet another poor sucker.
State Fair
OCTOBER: Maggie's first visit home involved a visit to the Texas State Fair. That's as close as we wanted to get to the fried bubble gum.
Bar None
JUNE: Another year of goofing off on stage in Bar None with a bunch of lawyers

Dave with Acoustic Guitar
NOVEMBER: Dave keeps his acoustic at Jesuit these days, and has hardly stopped grinning since he got his driver's license. On the other hand, everyone else on the road is looking kind of twitchy.

Mike's Speech
OCTOBER: Mike yammering on about some legal folderol at an ABA conference in Denver. Why they invited him to talk, we'll never know.
Jean Claude
ALL YEAR: Jean Claude. Not the most awe-inspiring home defense system. Or even defense from squirrels, when you get right down to it...
Prom Preparation
APRIL: Dolling up the Magster in preparation for Senior Prom. She cleans up pretty good.
Christmas Party
DECEMBER: Eearly Christmas party, when we're barely over focusing on Labor Day. They would not let us keep the glasses.
Gettysburg
AUGUST: Jane's brother Joe joined us at Gettysburg, where we stopped en route to taking Maggie up to college in Ohio. This was a few hundred miles off the whole "en route" idea; Moke's sense of direction is not one of his strengths.

Graduation
MAY: The Graduation of the Silly Hat, with godparents John & Nancy.
Merry Christmas to All, and the Happiest of New Years!
Mike, Jane, Maggie, & Dave
